We at Sony Online feel it is important to recognize the accomplishments of our employees and give them an opportunity to share with our players and fans a bit about themselves.

This month we would like to introduce you to Leah Bowers, one of the Producers of DC Universe Online. Currently hailing from SOE’s Austin studio, Leah put aside time to share with us a bit about how she got into working at SOE and some things she’s passionate about.

SOE Employee Leah Bowers DCUO Producer

Hello Leah Bowers! What do you do here at SOE? How long have you been working here?

Hello! I’m a Producer on DC Universe Online. I’m going on four years here at SOE Austin!

How did you get into the industry?

It was 2005, and I had just moved back to the United States after working on the creative team for the ceremonies of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. I had been working in film as an editor and motion graphics artist since college and I wanted a change. I had an interest in gaming and I thought “What the heck, I’ll try that!” I’ve been in it ever since. At SOE I actually came in as a designer and worked on DC Universe as such through launch. I loved the studio but I never felt like I was doing the right thing. Lucky for me, Lorin and the rest of the production team gave me a shot, and now I love what I do!

Tell us what a typical workday is like for you.

Production for me is very hands on. Every day is a new challenge and to me that’s fun. I work primarily with Engineering and UI here in Austin and I’ve grown rather attached to my teams. They are talented and amazing people, and I go to work for them.

You are in the Austin studio; have you ever visited the San Diego studio? What is your favorite thing about Austin that San Diego doesn’t have?

I have not been to the San Diego studio, but I was able to attend Town Hall and the Christmas party when it was held there several years ago. San Diego is beautiful, but Austin feels like home.

Which SOE Game is your favorite? In that game, do you have a favorite zone/location? Can you share other things you like about the game?

Well I have to be a little partial here to DCUO. I’ve had some pretty great moments with our players. I think one of my best memories however was when gearing up my main, I ran the OMAC Base duo. Right as the Brother Eye fight started my poor partner got KO’d from adds. It took forever but I finished the fight by myself. I was a pool of sweat at the end. I’ve also seen some pretty sweet open world PvP moments at Mercy General. It’s good to fight so close to a hospital.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you be?

Sorsha from Willow. Great hair and the best sword imo.

Do you have a hobby?

I’m always in the middle of a game, but when I step away from the computer I like to build things, refinish old furniture, and tinker in general. Right now I’m making a gigantic mess in my garage building candlesticks out of antique salt and pepper shakers. When the blood dries, I’ll let you know how that went.

Do you have a favorite movie? What’s the last one you saw?

I have favorite movies for all types of moods. Willow, obviously. I love Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth. I think I’ve memorized it.

What do you do to unwind after a busy day?

Reddit for weekdays and wine on the weekends.
