Greetings Heroes and Villains!
Andre here and we’re back with another update. This one’s been a fun one to work on because a lot of it comes from things we’ve been sitting with internally for a while - where pacing slows down, where the back-and-forth between menus gets in the way, and where we wanted you to feel like you have more room to experiment. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get started!
Late last year, we introduced a second, hot swappable ability tray to support the slotting of more abilities: Iconic Powers and our new Power Array Augments. The response to this new feature was overwhelmingly positive, but there’s always room for improvement. Based on your feedback, we’ve added a mini-UI so you can easily track your inactive tray cooldowns while you’re popping off your skill rotations.
Speaking of Power Array Augments, this fun new feature that kicked off with the White and Blue Lantern Rings has opened new doors for playstyle augmentation and experimentation. You will see many more of these in the future.
A small, yet mighty feature is now live - Cutscene Skipping! You’ve seen the cutscene before, so why sit through them over and over again? This will streamline your instance time and keep the party rolling. This feature was long overdue, and we’re pleased to get it into your hands.
Weekly Omnibus missions are also now more rewarding, offering a choice of Fortify materials for your Omnipotence items.
And most recently, we launched Trouble Alerts, an all-new daily event to help you advance Ally and Artifact progression. Be on the lookout for Daily Doubles and Triple Troubles which will multiply your gains.
Finally, beat the heat and take a splash this Summer with our new Fire and Water Power Array Augments. These allow you to weave Fire and Water abilities into your existing power set without a respec, so you can experiment with combinations you’ve never tried before.
Get loco with Lobo! We’ve got plans to introduce a brand-new Power Array Augment inspired by the intergalactic bounty hunter himself. If you’ve ever wanted a taste of his chaos at your fingertips, here’s your chance!
And just around the corner, a new reason to invest in your Allies. Progressing your Allies is no easy task, so we want to make it more rewarding along the way with new Ally Feats!
Missed an event? We’ve heard you loud and clear. The all-new A.R.G.U.S. Strike Team Event is on its way providing a path to go back and earn Allies, Iconic Powers, styles, emotes, and more from past events you weren’t around for. Whether you started playing just a few months ago or you’ve been with us since the beginning, this is your chance to fill in the gaps in your collection without needing a time machine. We know how much this kind of catch-up content has been asked for, and we’re excited to finally make it real.
We’re also pleased to announce that you’ll soon be able to play Unscaled (“unclamped”) versions of On Duty content in Private Matches. Do you and your crew want to feel truly unstoppable? Now you can. On a related note, we want to thank you for your participation in our recent Level Scaling Beta test. Your feedback was invaluable, and we are carefully reviewing our next steps.
Additionally, we’re refining the Fortify experience on two fronts: Smart Fortifying and the Fortify list. Smart Fortifying ensures that you only load what’s required for the next breakthrough, while the Fortify list will soon only show items that are not at their max rank to streamline the view.
Lastly, you may have noticed that we’ve been streamlining the early game experience for smoother alt creation and new players. Some of these improvements that are live or coming soon include early fast-movement, a “Warp to Current Mission” feature, and powers unlocking earlier at a lower power consumption. The optional Tutorial Skip will also soon auto-complete the base/lair introduction mission, the House of Legends tour mission, and the intro missions for Allies and Artifacts. The goal is to get players to end-game faster, so you can spend more time enjoying the latest activities.
There’s a lot more cooking behind the scenes, and we wanted to give you a sneak peek. A feature that we hinted at earlier this year is the Sidekick System (teased initially as Alt-kicks). Since you’ve invested so much into your alternate characters, down to their styles, gear, Artifacts and Allies, sometimes the only person you can really depend on is…well, yourself. Imagine calling in your favorite alt to support and battle alongside you. It’s early, but our prototype is done, and the results look fantastic! A little spoiler, the more powerful your alt the better their performance will be; So, you may want to start dusting off your favorites and make sure they’re geared up and ready for action!
We’re also developing an exciting new Ally Mission System. Your Allies are no longer just there to provide passives or wait for your summons. They will soon be able to embark on unique asynchronous mission assignments – a whole new way to reap rewards even when you’re away from DCUO.
Every login, every league, and every forum post and Discord conversation, it all reminds us why we do this. We’re always paying attention to how the game feels to play, and updates like this come from wanting every minute in DCUO to count. Remember, none of this happens without you.
There’s way more on the way and we’re glad to have you with us for it!
See you in-game,
