Players have long envied the power of their mentors in DC Universe Online. Now, they will be able to take up the power and presence of Wonder Woman and Circe in Legends. Wonder Woman and Circe

WONDER WOMAN, with Systems Designer Andrew Buschmann

Q: Tell us who you are and whether you worked on Wonder Woman or Circe.

A: I’m Andrew Buschmann, Systems Designer.  I worked on Wonder Woman.

Q: As a mentor in DCUO, Wonder Woman is well known to most players. How did you go about bringing her character into Legends and creating her powers?

A: I didn’t have to look far for inspiration with Diana.  She has an incredible story arch in our game, and makes lots of appearances in alerts and raids. The real fun in making her was using her god-given gifts to create abilities. Examples of this include her Amazonian Bracers which deflect damage back to their attacker, her Lasso of Truth, or the Monolith ability, which rends a huge chunk of earth from below her to be thrown or smashed. I think players will definitely be able to see her iconic strength through these abilities.

Q: Every Legends character brings something new to the Legends PvP stage. What does Wonder Woman have to offer? What is different about her?

A: Wonder Woman is our first legends character to use the Shield weapon type. This weapon is incredibly efficient in the right hands, and I look forward to seeing what players can do with it in Legends!

Q: If you had to pick one of Wonder Woman’s powers as your favorite, which would it be? Why?

A: My personal favorite would have to be Coupe de Grace, our first combo execute. Activating this ability will cause a melee strike initially, but holding melee again after it lands will trigger a massive secondary strike. If your target is below 30% health, this will cause extreme damage and likely finish them off. It will be great fun seeing players land this one.

Q: Who would win in a fight, Wonder Woman or Circe?

A: Wonder Woman. Circe is an extremely powerful character in her own right, but I think that Shield will have an advantage over Handblaster. A huge part of Circe’s game is to blink around the map. This is countered very well with Wonder Woman’s Lasso and Monolith abilities which close the space well. The other annoyance provided by Circe are her various pets. These are dispatched quickly by using Diana’s Amazonian Bracers.

While this would be a close fight, I think Diana definitely has the edge.

Q: You mentioned Wonder Woman’s ability to use power combos before with Coupe de Grace. Can you share further details?

A: Wonder Woman has two tray power combo abilities.

  • Truth Lasso – After activating this, players can fire off a follow up kick with no power cost by holding melee. This is extremely efficient in terms of damage / power ratio.
  • Coupe De Grace – The follow up hit and execute on this combo is free power cost as well.

Using both of the above abilities will max damage for minimal power usage.

CIRCE, with Systems Designer Matthew Johnson

Q: Tell us who you are and whether you worked on Wonder Woman or Circe.

A: My name is Matthew Johnson and I am a Systems Designer here at SOE Austin. Circe was the new Legends character I designed.

Q: As a mentor in DCUO, Circe is well known to most players. How did you go about bringing her character into Legends and creating her powers?

A: Circe has played a huge part in our game to this point, so we knew we really had to do something special in order to satisfy her fans. With the recent release of Quantum and Celestial powers, we suddenly had the potential to bring some new and exciting abilities into Legends PvP. Circe is well known for her command of humanoid beasts and wicked Sorcery, so that is what we focused on while trying to make her feel like the immortal goddess she is.

Q: Every Legends character brings something new to the Legends PvP stage. What does Circe have to offer? What is different about her?

A: Circe has a few abilities that make her stand out in Legends PvP. First and foremost is her Mirror Image ability. Circe blinks and reappears with a clone of herself that attacks her enemies and eventually explodes for AoE damage. She can also summon a powerful Bestiamorph Beserker that charges and knocks down her enemies, giving her time to unleash copious amounts of damage. Finally, she can cast a Bestiamorph spell to cause her enemy to flee and knockback any allies they bump into in the process. Considering all of these things, she is probably the most evasive Legends character we have.

Q: If you had to pick one of Circe’s powers as your favorite, which would it be? Why?

A: Mirror Image is definitely my favorite ability and it likely will be for anyone who plays her! The power to blink away from combat and reappear with a second version of yourself makes her entirely unique to fight against. This forces a decision from the opponent of whether or not to try and lunge either Player Circe or Fake Circe, to either avoid eating the ranged damage or to take it and stay away from the explosive AoE. It can really extend a close fight and tip the balance or help you survive until your teammate can come to the rescue.

Q: Who would win in a fight, Wonder Woman or Circe?

A: I my opinion, Circe definitely wins this fight! Wonder Woman is very hard to bring down with her bracers, and she has better distance closing powers than most other Legends. But, Circe has the evasion to match it. Her ability to confuse enemies with her Mirror Image and distract them with her Bestiamorph Beserker will give the space and time she needs to lay a ton of damage into Wonder Woman and eliminate her.

The designers have weighed in, both favoring their own creations, but ultimately it will be up to you to decide who will emerge victorious in Legends. Both Circe and Wonder Woman are now available in the in-game Marketplaces. Get them today and be the first to master their skills!
