Patch Notes | Game Update 162

Marketplace Bundle Preview Update

We’re excited to introduce a major improvement to the Marketplace experience: the ability to preview the contents of bundles before you buy! This update is designed to give you more confidence in your purchases, help you make informed decisions, and make exploring bundles more fun.

What’s New?

Previously, some of our most popular Marketplace bundles, especially weapon and ally bundles, didn’t offer content previews, and some existing previews weren’t working correctly. This made it harder to see exactly what you were getting before spending your credits. Starting October 21, all bundles with multiple items, including Weapons, Allies, Loot Boxes, and other item bundles, will allow you to preview their contents clearly and easily.

How It Works

  • Bundle Preview List:  You can now preview each of the individual items in a marketplace bundle using controller buttons or arrows on the preview window to cycle through the items.  The item name or style set you are currently previewing will be displayed so you know what you are currently looking at!
  • Treasure Box Preview:  Similarly, you will be able to preview items that can be received from most Time Capsules, Booster Bundles, or other treasure box style items.
  • Possible Rewards:  Items from treasure boxes that have chance of being received will be listed as a "possible reward".

You’ll now be able to see exactly what’s in a bundle, making it easier to decide which items are right for you and helping you get the most out of your Marketplace experience.

Feat Updates: Easier Green Lantern Tower Completion

We’ve updated the open world feats for Episode 50 to make them more accessible and less frustrating. Previously, the fold-out feats, Recruit of the Corps, Soldier of the Corps, Veteran of the Corps, Hero of the Corps, and Legend of the Corps, required you to complete a specific objective: “Mogo: Help the Green Lantern squad capture the third Yellow Lantern Device.” This third tower proved to be especially tricky, with a number of issues preventing players from successfully capturing it.

To improve your experience, we’ve adjusted the feat requirements. Now, the feat will track progress with a simpler description: “Mogo: Help the Green Lantern squad capture a Yellow Lantern Device.” This means any successfully captured tower counts toward your feat progress. Capture tower 1, tower 2, tower 3, each successful capture adds to your count. This update ensures all players can progress through these feats smoothly, without getting stuck on a single problematic tower.

Quick Access to Your Queued Actions

Managing your in-game actions is now faster and more convenient. Hold F1 (or Up on the D-Pad) to jump directly to the task you have queued.

Actions include:

  • Loot Choice
  • Pending Group Loot
  • Instance Available
  • Matchmaking
  • Answering Calls
  • Claim Granted Items
  • Exit Instance

Actions with time limits are prioritized first, ensuring you tackle the most urgent actions without delay.

Knock Out System Update: A Two-Phase Revamp

Big changes are coming to the Knock Out System in DC Universe Online! We’re rebuilding the experience from the ground up to make reviving, recovering, and returning to combat more intuitive, cooperative, and rewarding. This system will roll out in multiple phases. Phase One launches October 21, and the rest will follow.

Why We're Updating the Knock Out System

The Knock Out System is a fundamental part of DCUO combat, but it hasn’t evolved with the rest of the game. The current system can feel too punishing, too limited, and not always clear when teamwork or recovery is happening.

Goals

  • Promote replayability through meaningful challenges and risk-reward balance.
  • Encourage teamwork and make reviving feel like a shared victory.
  • Give players control and visibility even while downed.
  • Ensure consistent functionality and accessibility across all platforms.
  • Modernize the system for long-term gameplay relevance.
  • Make being revived helpful, not punishing.

Launching October 21

Improved Knock Out Visibility

Downed players previously struggled with limited visibility and situational awareness, as the restricted camera and obstructive UI made it difficult to stay engaged or informed. To improve the experience, several visibility and interface updates have been made. You can now rotate the camera vertically to better view your surroundings, while the Knock Out UI has been repositioned and made more transparent to reduce visual clutter. Desaturation levels have also been adjusted so you can clearly observe ongoing combat and plan your next move. In addition, new visual cues make it easier to see when someone is reviving you. Together, these updates make being downed less disorienting and add a layer of strategy to the recovery process.

Hold to Flee

Accidental button presses could sometimes cause players to Flee too early, missing the chance to be revived by their teammates. To fix this, a new hold-to-Flee action has been added. Now, players will need to hold the Flee button briefly to confirm the action, preventing unintentional interruptions during tense moments. Clear visual feedback will display progress while holding the button, so you’ll always know exactly when the action will trigger.

Coming Soon

The following updates expand the Knock Out System even further, focusing on communication, accessibility, and rewarding teamwork in meaningful new ways.

Improved Rally Interruption Rules

Previously, taking even minor damage would cancel a rally attempt, making it difficult to help fallen allies during intense combat. With this update, taking damage will no longer interrupt a rally, allowing players to revive teammates even while under pressure. Only major control effects such as knockbacks, knockdowns, or stuns will now interrupt the process. This change encourages more cooperative risk-taking and makes clutch revives in the heat of battle more achievable and rewarding.

Knock Out Flow Updates

Revive timers previously felt too short, leaving players with limited opportunities to assist downed teammates. At the same time, solo players were forced to wait through the entire duration before they could flee, creating a slow and restrictive experience. To address this, the new Flee Mode replaces the old countdown timer entirely. When knocked out, players now enter Flee Mode indefinitely, giving them the freedom to choose their next move. You can Flee at any time to instantly return to your current Rally Point, or Wait to be Revived with no time limit. Once revived, you’ll enter Revived Mode, where you can either Rally to jump back into combat or Flee to regroup safely. This update puts control back in your hands, making recovery more flexible and keeping the action flowing smoothly.

Rally Effect: Temporary Shielding

Players often found themselves eliminated almost immediately after standing up, making revives feel frustrating and ineffective. To improve survivability and make teamwork more rewarding, rallied players now receive a three-second protective shield upon standing, along with a Soder cooldown reset for an extra layer of defense. A clear visual effect will indicate when you’re protected, helping both you and your teammates stay aware of the brief safety window.

Chat Accessibility While Knocked Out

Players using mouse and keyboard currently can’t type in chat while downed, which makes it difficult to coordinate revives or discuss strategy during critical moments. To improve communication, you’ll soon be able to use chat and view the combat log while knocked out, allowing you to stay connected with your team even when you’re out of action. This update ensures that coordination and teamwork remain uninterrupted, helping your group stay organized and responsive throughout every encounter.

*Important Note: Enabling this feature for keyboard and mouse may require changing the key currently bound to the Rally action while KO’d (Enter key) to another option.

Triggered Effects on Rally

Currently, no buffs or effects trigger when a player rallies another, limiting both design creativity and opportunities to reward teamwork. New triggered effects will activate when a rally succeeds, creating deeper synergy between allies and support-focused playstyles. Buffs and effects can apply to the player performing the rally, the player being rallied, or even nearby enemies or other contextual targets, depending on the situation. Additionally, a new defense buff will be granted to the player performing the rally. This change lays the groundwork for future systems such as artifacts, allies, or abilities that further celebrate and enhance cooperative gameplay.

Improved Rally Messaging

Players often don’t realize when they are being revived, which can lead to accidental Flees and makes it unclear who performed the revival, reducing recognition for teamwork. To address this, rally communication is receiving a major upgrade. Downed players will now see in real time who is reviving them, and a group-wide message will announce who was revived and by whom. This information will also appear in the Chat Window, ensuring that all players are aware of what is happening. Clear feedback will result in fewer mistakes, better coordination, and a more satisfying cooperative experience.

Settings Access While Knocked Out

Knocked-out players using mouse and keyboard currently cannot access the Options menu, which makes it impossible to adjust key settings or resolve audio issues during downtime. To improve this, you’ll soon be able to open the Options menu while downed, providing quick access to audio settings, keybinds, and other configuration options without having to wait to respawn.

Terminology Fix: Rally vs. Flee

The current terminology can be confusing, as players who “Flee” are taken to the Rally Point, while players who are “Rallied” are not. To address this, the death UI terminology will be updated for greater clarity.

Looking Ahead

The Knock Out System update is a complete modernization of one of DCUO’s oldest mechanics. By giving players more control, rewarding cooperation, and improving communication, this revamp will make every knock out and rally moment feel more dynamic, fair, and fun.
